Peles castle is located in the Carphatian mountains close to Sinaia. In 1866 prince Carol became king of Romania and in 1873 started the construction of his castle. The first architectural plans were made by the german architect Doderer but in 1876 the project was entrusted to Johan Schultz. In 1883 the palace was finished but lots of improvements were conducted during the period 1893 - 1914. The project was finished in german neo-renneisance style with lots of vertical profiles, fragmented compositions and lots of wood-carving and decoration. The castle is surrounded by beautiful forests.
