ZICA MONASTERY

KRALEVO, SERBIA

Zica is an orthodox monastery, which gave the birth of the independant Serbian chirch. It was founded in 13th century by the great zhupan Stefan Nemanya. His brother Rastko was controling the construction. Rastko Nemanic became the first serbian archibishop and took the name Saint Sava.

The monastery complex had trouble periods during his long existance. It was burned, reconstructed and upgraded more than 20 times.

In historical plan all the kings of the Medieval Serbian state married with the state in the monastery chirch.
