Kalambaka is a city in Central Greece, in the region of Thessaly. It is located on the river Salamvria, 50 km west of Larissa. Immediately north of the city is the Meteora monastery complex. The population of Kalambaka is around 7,000. The medieval city of Stagi, which was the center of the Orthodox diocese in the 11th century, was located on the territory of the city. In the town, you can see the medieval church of the 10th - 11th century "Assumption of the Blessed Virgin", built on the ruins of the early Christian church. The church is a three-nave basilica without a dome. It is interesting for her that in the altar there is a secret place where Christians hid in times of danger.
