BELGRADE, SERBIA

Belgrade is capital of Serbia and the biggest city in the country. Situated at the place where Sava river flows into Danube river. Population of the city is 1,6 millions. 

The beautiful and modern city offers to its visitors great variety of cultural and architectural sightseeings. Among the most prominent are the Ethnographic museum, The Holy Synod palace, the Parliament, the National theatre, St Mark church, palaces of Karadjordjevic and Obrenovic dynasties, princess Ljubica palace and the spectacular church St Sava at the top of Vracar hill. 

There are more than 30 museums and art galleries in Belgrade. Real symbol of the city is the bronze statue of the Victor erected in 1928 at the top of a column. It represents naked man holding a sword in one hand and pigeon in the other. This is symbol of the Serbian military power and wish for peace. About 15 km south of the city is the Avala hill, where the Ottomans built a fortress in XVc. Now there is a monument of the unknown soldier, work of the famous sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. 

Port of two rivers (Sava and Danube), Belgrade offers a lot of opportunities for cultural tourism combined with many parks and gardens.
